Bhutan SDF Explained
Short answer: every international visitor pays USD 100 per person per night to the Government of Bhutan. Indian nationals pay INR 1,200 per night. The rate is fixed until August 2027. With Drukyul Holidays the SDF is already included in our USD 285/day price.
What does the SDF pay for?
Free healthcare and education for Bhutanese citizens, forest and environment protection, carbon-neutral development, and upkeep of Bhutan's cultural heritage. It is how Bhutan keeps its "high value, low volume" tourism policy.
Who pays?
- International visitors: USD 100 per night
- Indian visitors: INR 1,200 per night
- Children: reduced rates apply by age — ask us for your family
Is it worth it?
Bhutan stays uncrowded, its forests cover over 70% of the country, and its culture is lived, not staged. Most guests tell us the SDF is the reason Bhutan still feels special.
How we handle it
We pay the SDF on your behalf with your visa, and it is shown clearly in your quote — no hidden fees. See the full Bhutan trip cost breakdown and how the Bhutan visa works.
